You will find masses of places to see nearby and one is Penshaw Monument. The temple stands on Penshaw Hill and was built in 1844 by Thomas Pratt as a memorial. Follow the course that winds up the hill for spectacular views of the river and Durham Wear.
Penshaw, the Wear and the Lambton family particularly, characteristic in the legend of The Lambton Worm.
